Why "Journey in Faith"?

The name Journey in Faith draws inspiration from the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35), where two disciples, struggling with uncertainty, are joined by the risen Christ on their path. Though they do not recognize Him at first, they come to see Him clearly in the breaking of the bread—and are transformed by the encounter.

In the Emmaus Story the disciple’s hearts were burning within them (Holy Spirit). They were transformed through the journey with Jesus. The disciples had to trust; recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread, they were then sent on mission.

Our hope for this journey is that all recognize Jesus and become missionary disciples. After the death of Jesus many were downcast and some are downcast now about the future, but we must have hope for the future and be open to the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is walking with us and our eyes need to be open and our hearts burning. There is the element of salvation history that had to be revealed. There was new life in Christ and He is still here with us. In the breaking of the Bread he is giving of self.

Like those disciples, we in the Archdiocese of Dubuque are walking a path of faith, trusting that Christ is with us even in times of change. Journey in Faith is not just about restructuring—it’s about renewal, accompaniment, and mission. It’s about deepening our encounter with Christ, strengthening our communities through the Eucharist, and being sent forth to share the Good News.

This is a journey marked by hope, discernment, and trust—a journey we take together, with Christ at the center.
